House Jankowicka II / 2022

In the introduction to the first version of House Jankowicka 1, the tendency to translate needs directly into independent rooms was discussed. It is not the best model to proceed as it leads to an unnecessary increase in construction and operating costs of the building. Activities at home take place not only in space but also in time. A room can be used for different functions if they take place at different times of the day.

While working on House Jankowicka version 1,the guest room was removed from the program,because such a function can be temporarily fulfilled by a playroom for children. In the next stages, it was found that with sufficiently large rooms, children can play in them. The living room was abandoned, and the office took over the function of the guest room.

A home gym and spa, by their very nature, cannot offer the full range of equipment that can be used in professional centers. After a long analysis, it turned out that the program can be limited to a small sauna next to the parent’s bathroom and an elliptical in the office.

While working on the first version, the investor began to pay more and more attention to the relationship between the interior of the house and its surroundings. Not only the view of the forest, but also other views became important.

The House Jankowicka version 2 maintains the general layout of the functions on the axis from the entrance to the most private part of the building. However, there are fundamental differences. Greater intimacy of the interior in the relation to the entrance and neighboring plots is ensured. Better, more attractive and convenient room lighting was obtained, and the parent’s living room, office and bathroom were lit from opposite walls. This was achieved by introducing three small “atria” on the west side.

We enter the building through the entrance atrium, which limits the view from the access road to the interior of the building.

The next atrium can be covered with glass and act as an orangery. As a result, the living room has an attractive view in two directions. The third atrium in the north-west corner of the house has an outdoor jacuzzi and is accessible from the end of corridor in the sleeping area and from the bathroom with sauna.

The sunlight that enters the interior from different sides is very variable and therefore attractive. It is almost always very desirable in the winters. Unfortunately, in summer it can be bothersome at times. It is controlled by the arrangement of awnings and external blinds.
